Another delayed journal entry: Last Friday, I had a chance to see an SUV being used for off-road driving.
I was driving down East Liberty Boulevard when I saw headlights pointed at me from my side of the road. I slowed to a stop and saw it was an SUV pointed the wrong way, into incoming traffic. (A correctly-oriented car next to me stopped also.)
We all looked at each other's headlights for a few minutes, and then the SUV slowly drove up over the grassy divider and into the road on the proper side for the way it wanted to go.
I am still undecided on whether this use really justifies SUV ownership.
