I went to Phantom of the Attic today in sort of a spendy mood, so I picked up a starter pack and a booster of the D&D miniatures. Reasonably nice miniatures; better molded than they are painted.

The skirmish game looks reasonably tantalizing; I look forward to trying it out.

These are much cheaper than normal miniatures, but it's still a pricey habit to get heavily into.

Whatever you do, don't get sucked into Warhammer in any of its incarnations -- GW intentionally arranges things to suck as much money out of you as possible. I wouldn't have, except that my entire gaming group when I was in Pittsburgh was into it, and my friend Louis sold me rather a lot of Brettonians for cheap....

I think I'm unlikely to do so. The GW minis require painting, don't they?

I'm looking forward to seeing the miniatures. When you buy the packs do you know what you're getting (like conventional miniatures, and unlike CCGs)?

No, it's more CCG-like. Randomized, collectable, and levels of rarity.
