I gave blood on Wednesday afternoon. It was one of the most painful blood-donation experiences I've had--the phlebotomist was new, and kept missing the vein. Even the more experienced phlebotomist she asked for help had to root around a bit to find it. I still have a bruise today.

I filled up my donation card on this visit; I've now made 12 donations in Pittsburgh--which is really much less than I feel I should have made by now. My jokes about "since I've filled up the card, I get the next one free" appeared to be lost on the staff.

Beware any phlebotomist named 'Vlad'

Also, beware the vampire Jesus: he gave his blood for you and he wants it back NOW!

These and other tasteless (and tasteful) pins brought to you courtesy of Nancy's Buttons.

I always have a wonderful time giving blood. I agree that it's tough to get it back afterwards, if you change your mind.

I like giving blood. It gives me a feeling of serving my community without a lot of work. I just wish I didn't have to do so much waiting around in the office beforehand.

I like giving blood. It's like exercise, but not quite, and I don't get all sweaty. :)
