http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20020606a is a page about WotC's contest for a new fantasy setting. It starts with a 1-page proposal; 10 winners expand their entries to a 10-page proposal; three of those get to develop that to a 100-page bible for $20,000, and then the big winner gets $100,000. Which is a good chunk of change; even $20,000 is big money in the gaming industry.

Like almost every other geek on the planet, I'm thinking of sending in a proposal for my campaign.

I'm having second thoughts, though. The cool part of my campaign is a gimmick instead of a campaign world. I like to think that it's a cool gimmick, but it's just a gimmick.

So I think it very unlikely that I would even get to round 2. (By comparison, I felt much more optimistic about my entries in the Pillsbury Bake-off contest. I could well be misguided, though.)

On the other hand, it's only a page. The expectation is low, but so is the effort involved...

it's only a page....

I think you should go for it! You might surprise yourself! And if you don't make it to round two, can't you still enjoy knowing that you tried?

Ralph, Ralph, Ralph. Time you stepped up to the plate. Time to play with the big boys. $0.03 a word as earning potential just ain't cutting it. I highly recommend you proceed.

Just remember when you win that both Karen and I supported you in this endeavor. 10% of the take will suit us just fine. After all, you're doing most of the work... 8^)

Hey, go for it! What have you got to lose? A few hours of your time? (And if writing it down helps you develop it a little more in your mind, you haven't even lost that.)

This is just a subtle attempt to get me to say something remotely coherent and intelligible about that I'm trying to do with the campaign, isn't it?

Well, I just want you to know that I've seen through this ploy.
