This time, I can actually share my Sunday dinner recipe without violating copyright.

I had read in Roadfood a mention of a style of hamburgers in New Mexico that included chiles in the patties. But that was about all the data I had to work from; I didn't have a recipe. Using that as my inspiration, I came up with this:

Ralph's Vaguely Southwestern Burgers

3 lb. ground beef
2 cans chopped green chiles
1 package taco seasoning
1 tablespoon liquid smoke

Mix everything together. (Use your hands.) Shape into about 12 patties. Grill the patties in the normal hamburger-grilling way.
(I topped them with cheddar and colby-jack cheese; pepper-jack cheese seems like it would also have been a good choice.

The burgers came out pretty darn tasty. This isn't an ultrafabulous recipe, but it's worth remembering.

1) Sounds good. Also sounds like the sort of thing that chopped chiplotles might go well with instead of green chiles.

2) You're pretty clear on the copyright front. See http://www.cbbqa.com/notes/CopyrightLaw.html for a decent write-up. Short form: the ingredients and general how-to can't be copyrighted, only the "literary" part (the "My uncle made this for me as a kid" kind of stuff)

1) Good point. Some chipotles in adobo sauce might have been very tasty. I'll have to try that soon.

2) I hadn't realized that; thanks for calling it to my attention. It still feels polite to me not to republish Pillsbury's recipes to excess, but I'll now be more inclined to share particular recipes that people ask for.
