I have a long document that demonstrates a bug.

I remove half of the document, and the problem goes away.

I reinstate that half, remove the other half of the document, and the problem goes away.

OOOOH that sucks.

Um... what if you take off the first and last fourths?

Sometimes I can remove bits and preserve the bug, sometimes I can't.
I'm now going systematically through, removing lines one by one, and seeing which lines I can remove and maintain the bug.

I prefer bugs that are amenable to binary search.

At least this one is deterministic.

Me too. In fact, that's one of my favorite bug finding mechanisms.

Have you ruled out document length itself as the cause? What happens if you remove half and duplicate the other half, resulting in the original length?
