[livejournal.com profile] bruceb pointed out this game E6, a stripped-down version of D&D in which the characters more or less stay at 6th level.

This really sounds like fun to me, actually. 6th level or so was the point in my campaign where the characters felt powerful but comprehensible--I think there's a lot that could be done with such a game.

I also found these other rules of his on the use of Conviction (for pushing your limits), the Death Flag (for letting a player decide when death is okay), and Raising the Stakes that fascinate me: http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=3658318&postcount=4

E8 seems to be where the sweet spot for me is - I find 6th level to be just on the tantalizing edge of the right place - like working next to a coffee shop with fresh brewed Blue Mountain coffee, but stuck having to make do with the okay blend your office has.

But it does seem like a really neat idea.

I've been watching both E6 and Mircolite-20 (ultra-stripped down rules).

What I specifically like about E6 is the focus on developing a mechanism to doing wonderfully complex things (spells especially). Overall, I'd say that it appears that mages/priests have the best "Epic 6th" level experience. Maybe if I read the documents more in detail, then I'd know what the fighters/skill-types do after reaching epic-6th status.

Are you on Enworld? I'm on as balterkn (not that I post very often)

That does sound interesting.

I have a few posts on the rpg.net (though I don't read rpg.net) and enworld manifestations of E6 (both as Will)

I like E6 particularly combined with ritual magic of some sort. For instance, maybe you can scribe a scroll for spells you don't know... need to cast something high level? Figure out the recipe, and hope you succeed. Or Incantations from UA.
